Educators

Matthew has been developing his love of the French culinary culture since the age of six when his family moved to Toulouse, France. Matthew worked in the kitchen besides noted chefs trained by Hubert Keller and Roger Vergé. Matthew holds a Masters of Arts in Teaching from the American University. He taught French for eleven years in Washington D.C. at a charter high school with a focus on the hospitality industry – a perfect fit for him to share his love of French food and the restaurant industry with LA BOULANGERIE students.

Lauren is a graduate of Willow Street Yoga’s 200 hour teacher training program. She completed the YoKid 20 hour Kid’s Yoga Teacher Training program in 2011, and has taught kid’s yoga at after school programs at Parkland Middle School and Rock Creek Forest Elementary School. She also taught art, creative writing, and cooking at Sidwell Friends’ Summer Camp between 2005 and 2009. In 2017 Lauren founded Grounded Wellness DC,  a unified platform for her yoga and bodywork businesses. Lauren loves helping LA BOULANGERIE campers find a deeper sense of mind/body harmony through creative and playful yoga instruction and meditation.

Ajeenah is a native Washingtonian and a graduate of Trinity University. With her BA in Sociology and Masters in Business, Ajeenah alongside her mother Monica created Twist and Turns Body Fitness, a women owned fitness center in NW, DC. Ajeenah has been teaching children’s and youth yoga at Twist and Turns Body Fitness and several schools in the DC area since 2012. Ajeenah brings the awareness of healthy living to LA BOULANGERIE children.

Flora comes to LA BOULANGERIE directly from the city of Vannes in Brittany, France, where she was born and has lived her entire life. In addition to her cultural heritage, Flora brings several years of experience at CARTRON, a handcrafted pastry and chocolate shop in the same family for five generations in Vannes.  She has also served as Head of Sector for the Le Duff group, the world’s top café-bakery company, with brands such as La Madeleine. Flora is delighted to share her Brittan childhood memories, rich in distinguished gastronomy, traditional songs, folkloric dances, and historical places, as part of LA BOULANGERIE.

Asmae is the founder and head instructor at LA BOULANGERIE. She lived in France for more than a decade where she studied Fine Arts and International Relations. Asmae enjoys sharing her knowledge and passion for food and healthy living with youth. She teaches international cooking, French baking techniques, and conscientious eating through select ingredients, recipes from scratch, communal dining, and farm-to-table approaches. Asmae creates curriculum and teaches at farm camps, schools, public and private institutions, and at LA BOULANGERIE.

Maha grew up in Switzerland where she earned a Masters of Arts in Linguistics. Before moving to the US, she worked as a Middle School German and English instructor at Ecoles d’Aubonne, in Switzerland. Maha is a dynamic and creative teacher. Her years of experience teaching children and youth earned her exceptional skills to engage her students in serious learning with fun and stimulating activities. Maha is thrilled to bring together her two passions, language teaching and cooking, in LA BOULANGERIE classroom.

Born and raised in France, Chrystelle holds a Masters degree in Elementary Education from American University. She currently is a French Immersion teacher at Sligo Creek Elementary School in Silver Spring, Maryland. Chrystelle pursued cooking from a young age with her Sicilian grandmother and Basque grandfather, and she has consolidated her culinary skills through trainings in French and Italian cuisine at the Academie de Cuisine in Gaithersburg, Maryland. Chrystelle brings her guitar and her foodie spirit to LA BOULANGERIE.
